I saw a few of these coil-less Asian safety pins in a photo somewhere many moons ago and immediately went on a hunt for them, thinking (quite rightly) that they'd be ideal stitch markers. Slender and elegant in antiqued brass, they do their job without getting in your way. I also pin one in each increase/decrease in a series so I can see at a glance what I've done.

Of course, they also work for anything you'd use a standard safety pin for.

I've packaged sets of 20 in sturdy kraft envelopes (now with resealable flaps!), adorned with actual-size drawings in case you happen to own both sets and need to know which you're grabbing at a glance.
